Awesome Learning in Chennai - Empowering MSMEs via e-Commerce
The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) and its partner TANSTIA-FNF Service Centre (TFSC) launched a new initiative which aims at enabling small and medium enterprises in Tamil Nadu to tap into the growing e-commerce-market. Titled “Empowering MSME through e-Commerce”, the program was formally launched in Chennai at a public function attended by a big crowd of friends and partners of the Foundation and the media. The main focus is to train owners of small and medium sized companies to adopt digital, Internet-based technologies so that they may grow their businesses.
“There is hardly another sector of the Indian and global economy that offers so many chances as the digital sphere”, said FNF Regional Director Dr. Ronald Meinardus. “It’s high time that also the smaller players in the local economy make use of these chances”, he added.
The first of a series, the two-day training course addressed in a hands-on fashion the various challenges and opportunities of the digital market place. 20 entrepreneurs, most of them in their twenties and from different industries, joined the exercises. Our expert consultant Mr. Rishab Chandra enlightened the group with practical expertise on issues such as how to create a professional online presence, how to market a business on the World Wide Web and how to make use of such platforms as Facebook and Twitter to earn money.
In the end, the participants showed happy faces. “After this workshop, I am more confident in taking my business ahead”, said Sarmila Devi, who earns a living manufacturing eco-friendly crafts. Another participant, Priya, who sells Ayurvedic products, said, “It was an awesome learning experience. I want to implement the ideas I have learnt. I am very happy with this program.”
