other have ceased to exist 20 years ago. German citizens of the Eastern part of the country could enjoy again the basic right of individual freedom - highly visible one aspect: the freedom of movement shown symbolically by these little cute cars called Trabbis passing the wall and checkpoints. Later Germany reunited and thus granting for each and every citizen these rights in one common constitution.

The break down of the wall initiated another process of wider impact: The iron curtain was cut to pieces. Freedom started spreading around the world. Peoples of Eastern Europe put their regimes under pressure which resulted in the end of many autocratic regimes. Nowadays, these peoples profit by individual freedom and new chances as well as by a free market economy. And freedom continues to spread…

To mark and celebrate this very special of the German Reunification, which became - due to its importance - the German National Day of 3rd October, the German Embassy in Islamabad invited Pakistani and International guests. Furthermore, the multi-facetted engagement of Germany in Pakistan, meaning many organizations active in different fields, was highlighted. One of this facets is the foundation for freedom – the Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit.

Especially, on this day it could not be missed. Working for freedom in Pakistan since 1986 the Friedrich Naumann Foundation presented some of its own as well as its partners’ publications. In many talks and discussion the high commitment was laid out. Meeting a good range of the Pakistani society – starting from the Minister of Interior Rehman Malik, via Media Representatives to political parties and NGOs new opportunities were sought and further developed in order to continue the process of spreading of freedom – individual freedom expressed in democracy, human and civil rights and a free market economy.
