Our work in Sri Lanka
The Foundation started working in Sri Lanka more than 40 years ago. Its main task is to continually underline the relevance of freedom for developing an open and tolerant society.
The Foundation's work in Sri Lanka centers' on:
· Promoting Rule of Law and Constitutional Reforms
· Promoting Economic Freedom
· Training candidates, young politicians and future leaders
· Strengthening organizations that promote liberal policies
In Sri Lanka FNF has a sophisticated partner structure spanning from a political party that promotes liberal principles to recognized think tanks, a liberal academy and a liberal youth network spread island-wide.
With the Centre for Policy Alternatives FNF works on constitutional concepts for strengthening the democratic process in Sri Lanka. Through close political contacts to liberal politicians from various parties, liberal policies are introduced into the political process.
Together with the Institute for Democracy and Leadership, FNF has inspired the creation of Liberal Youth Guilds in the entire country during the last few years. The Guilds offer political education and motivate young adults and future politicians to organise themselves in a democratic way. Along with its partner Business Development Services, the Foundation focuses on the integration of the young generation into society and the job markets in order to support the preconditions for a democratic and civic political culture.
FNF cooperates with the Foundation for Economic Freedom in Sri Lanka. By publishing an index, the two Foundations provide policymakers with data to enable them to evaluate the economic situation in an objective manner.
