Who we are
Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit (FNF) is a non-profit organisation that promotes liberal democracy, respect for human rights, rule of law and economic freedom.
The foundation operates in more than 60 countries around the world, exchanging knowledge and experience with civilians, NGO staff, academics, politicians and policy makers. In conjunction with its partner organisations, the foundation provides policy consultation as well as educational programmes to create a more open world where people live freely and in peace.

Theodor Heuss The FNF was founded in 1958 by Theodor Heuss (1884-1963), the first president of the Federal Republic of Germany after the end of World War ll, which marked the beginning of the liberal democratic state of Germany.

Friedrich Naumann The foundation was named after Friedrich Naumann (1860-1919), a pioneer in Germany's liberal politics who believed that for democracy to function at its best, civic education is needed to create politically informed and educated citizens who know how to participate in political affairs and have a say in the direction of their nation.
